Make a Little More Room for the Annual Conference

~ 2 minute read
Exterior of Best Western Parkway Inn, in Cornwall

If you’re travelling a bit of a distance to attend the Business Sisters Annual Conference, we have a suggestion: don’t start your conference day with an alarm set for an ungodly hour and a long Monday morning drive.

Come on Sunday instead.

We’ve reserved a block of rooms at a special rate for conference participants at the Best Western Parkway Inn, giving you the option to arrive the day before, enjoy a relaxed evening, get a good night’s sleep and wake up ready for the conference instead of already feeling like you’ve put in half a day.

And since reduced rates are available for up to two nights beginning Sunday, November 8, you might want to stay Monday night, too.

Give all those ideas somewhere to land

Anyone who has attended a great conference knows what happens by the end of the day. Your notebook is full. Your head is fuller. You’ve met people you want to follow up with, heard something that made you rethink part of your business, and probably scribbled down at least three ideas you’re convinced you absolutely must do something about.

Then you drive home, walk through the door and regular life starts up again.

Staying an extra night gives you a little space between inspiration and reality. You can go back through your notes while everything is still fresh, flesh out those new ideas, make a plan for what you actually want to implement and perhaps even send a few of those follow-up messages before they end up on the infamous “I really should get to that” list.

Or you can put on your pyjamas, order something delicious and enjoy the rare pleasure of having absolutely nowhere else you need to be. We fully support both approaches.

Share the experience, or enjoy some glorious solitude

Our special conference rates begin at $140 per night for a room with one queen bed, with occupancy for up to two people. Rooms with two queen beds are $160 per night and can accommodate up to four people.

That means a few Business Sisters can share a room and make the conference into a mini getaway while keeping costs down.

It also means you can book a room all to yourself.

We’ll just leave that thought here for the moms, the light sleepers and anyone who shares a bed with a person who insists they “do not snore.”

Join us for dinner on Sunday

We’re also planning a Sunday evening dinner in the hotel dining room, with a special table d’hôte menu.

It will be a lovely way to ease into the conference, meet and reconnect with other Business Sisters, and enjoy an evening together before Monday’s program begins. We’ll be sharing the dinner details shortly.

So why not make a little more of your Annual Conference experience? Arrive Sunday and skip the early-morning drive. Stay Monday night and give yourself time to absorb, reflect and plan. Share a room with a few Business Sisters and turn it into a Girls’ Night Out, or claim a room of your own and enjoy the peace and quiet.

How to book

Registered conference participants will receive hotel booking instructions in their registration confirmation email.

The special block of rooms is available until October 8, or while rooms last, so if staying over sounds appealing, don’t leave your reservation until the last minute.

After all, you’re already making the time to invest in yourself and your business at the Annual Conference. Giving yourself a little extra time on either side might make that investment even more worthwhile.

We have to learn that sharing what we learned in our businesses and the experience we acquired are things we can share without feeling that our business will be robbed by competition in the business world, competition is often good in the business world as it keeps us honest, accountable, and determined to do the best we can with the products or services we provide. Confidence goes a long way in knowing we give our best, share our failures and successes and always have an ear open to learn and maintain a voice to speak and be heard.

We are entering a time when women need to take our place, fill up our space and be who we are without apology. I have difficulty with this and thus I try to keep expanding, keep learning, keep letting go of those past experiences that have kept me small(er). Our culture and past societal 'norms' in a patriarchal time have diminished our voice in addition to other past traumas to women. In supporting each other we can rise together without guilt or shame for being a b*tch or any other shadow expression of our soul, to embrace our power that is within. (Please note I have recently come off of a feminine empowerment retreat called Rise Sister Rise.)
