Collaborating to Empower Women Entrepreneurs

Business Sisters is proud to announce a new partnership with the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SDG). This collaboration will support the production of five networking events across the territory of SDG in 2024. These events are designed to unite, empower, and inspire women entrepreneurs, along with showcasing women-owned businesses.

SDG is a region steeped in history and ambition

According to 2021 Census figures, the United Counties of SDG have a population of over 114,000 residents spread across an area of 3,308.85 square kilometers. With a population density of just 34.6 people per square kilometer, the region faces unique challenges in rural economic development, including limited access to high-speed internet and infrastructure and market access issues. The United Counties are addressing these challenges diligently, while recognizing the role that small, independent businesses play in fostering quality of life and a healthy economic climate in our small towns and villages.

Through its Economic Development Officer, Tara Kirkpatrick, the United Counties’ commitment to economic development is unwavering. Tara and her team understand that local enterprises require innovative approaches and steadfast support. That includes supporting women-owned businesses! Women entrepreneurs are not only significant contributors to the economy but also bring diversity, innovation, and community engagement to the forefront of entrepreneurship.

Doreen Ashton Wagner, Fonder and Executive Director of Business Sisters, emphasizes the impact of this sponsorship: “Our alliance with the United Counties of SDG is a testament to the power of collaboration. Together, we are creating avenues for women business owners to thrive, ensuring their success is everyone’s success. These networking events are just the beginning of a brighter, more inclusive future for our business community.”

Business Sisters is dedicated to creating opportunities for women-owned and co-owned businesses to flourish, thereby strengthening the region’s economic ecosystem. As we look forward to the 2024 event calendar year, look for the Made in SDG logo to denote events taking place in Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry. We invite women entrepreneurs and allies from all corners of SDG and beyond to join us in these transformative events.

We are entering a time when women need to take our place, fill up our space and be who we are without apology. I have difficulty with this and thus I try to keep expanding, keep learning, keep letting go of those past experiences that have kept me small(er). Our culture and past societal 'norms' in a patriarchal time have diminished our voice in addition to other past traumas to women. In supporting each other we can rise together without guilt or shame for being a b*tch or any other shadow expression of our soul, to embrace our power that is within. (Please note I have recently come off of a feminine empowerment retreat called Rise Sister Rise.)
